I have to admit that I’m one of those people that got to know Sólstafir with their previous album Otta. That one was one of the albums of the year 2014 for me. So I was eagerly awaiting the release of their follow up album Berdreyminn.
While this is still a very impressive album and most bands would sell their soul to write a record like this, I have to concede that this record is not as good as Otta. Where that album was beautiful and dark, Berdreyminn is beautiful, contemplative and even a bit hopeful.
Musically Sólstafir still mix some metal and some prog rock ( the 70’s and 80’s genre I mean) with (neo)folk and the amazing voice of Aðalbjörn Tryggvason.
