2017 seems to be a good year for old school death metal. And we can add the debut album from Oakland’s Necrot to that list. Necrot is a band consisting of death metal veterans who owned their stripes in bands like Atrament and Vastum. And you can actually hear that on Blood offerings.
They bring us 8 old school death metal songs with a crust edge both in guitar sound as in the overall feel of the record. The inspiration for this record is clearly the early days of american death metal. Autopsy is never far away. Of more modern bands I think that Extremity, another band that is related to Vastum is a good reference. Although Necrot is overall a bit more manic, faster and dirtier due to the crust influences.
